Orange Piggy, Premium Member, Says: “Today I baked my very first sourdough starter bread. It's not easy! I started to make the sourdough starter last Thursday.
Sourdough starter needs lots of loving care!
I ate them with my favorite toppings – cheddar cheese and sour cream. Yummy!”
BREAD RECIPE HELP
INGREDIENTS
1 2/3 cups water
1/2 pound Wild Yeast Sourdough Starter
4 1/2 cups bread flour; spoon into measuring cup and level to rim
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Combine water and sourdough starter in the bowl of standing mixer with dough hook attached. Add the flour and salt. Mix at low speed for 5 minutes and switch to medium speed for 7 minutes.
2. Place the dough in a large floured bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rest for 1 1/2 hours.
3. Transfer the dough to a floured work surface and punch it down.
4. Shape the dough with your palms to form a neat ball.
5. Line a large, wide bowl with a well-floured kitchen towel and place the dough inside. Let rise for 6-7 hours or until tripled in size.
6. Turn over on a floured work surface. Using a sharp knife, make 7 slashes from the center of the round outward to within 2 inches from the edges. (Like rays of sun)
(The slashes are not optional, they are important to successful baking of the bread).
7. Bake (preferably on a preheated pizza stone) in preheated the oven at 450 degrees F for 1 hour or until a knock on the bottom of the bread produces a hollow sound.
